BANJAM RUMI ORANGE. A rare heirloom tomato variety from Afghanistan, with a rich history. The variety was first introduced to the USA in 1937 (Tom Kleffman). The name translates from Persian as "tomato". The plant is indeterminate, with strong growth, a narrow, neat bush, and regular, ordinary foliage. The bushes develop well and are distinguished by long and stable fruiting — from the mid-season until the very frosts. The fruits are small by modern standards, weighing 100-150 g, round-flattened, with pronounced deep ribbing in the upper part. The skin is very thin and delicate.
The color is bright, orange-yellow, sometimes with a slight reddish blush when fully ripe. The flesh is very juicy, soft, with a pleasant texture. The taste is mild, sweet, harmoniously complemented by a light refreshing acidity without sharpness — a classic taste of ancient Eastern tomatoes. The variety is excellent for fresh consumption, salads, and tastings, especially valued by collectors and lovers of rare historical varieties. Banjam Rumi Orange is a true rarity with an Eastern character, combining history, decorative appeal, and a subtle, refined taste. Note: There is a red-fruited form of the variety.
