BOARS TOOTH, USA. A variety by Brad Gates. The fruits are elongated, chocolate-red with green stripes. The taste ranges from good to excellent. A true exotic, but this variety is unstable. In 2018, it split into green-striped and red-striped varieties. In 2019, the selection was made exclusively from red-striped plants. The green-striped ones were removed.
The plant is vigorous, reaching 1.7 m. in open ground, sets fruit without gaps, and is highly productive. Each cluster has 10 fruits weighing 30–40 g. The fruit shape is plum with an elongated "nose," truly resembling a tooth or tusk of a large animal. The color is bronze-green with pink streaks, and the flesh is uniform bronze.
Mid-early plum. The taste is wonderful, very tasty and sweet. It has a pronounced fruity note, juicy, and melts in the mouth. Top marks for taste and yield! Highly recommend this variety as a bright novelty from the world of tomatoes.
GREEN VARIETIES
Green tomatoes have a number of beneficial properties and features. Here are a few key aspects:
-
High antioxidant content: Green tomatoes contain antioxidants such as vitamin C and flavonoids, which help fight inflammation and oxidative stress.
-
Solanine: Unripe green tomatoes contain a substance called solanine, which can be toxic in large amounts, but its content decreases as the tomatoes ripen. In ripe green varieties, its concentration is usually very low.
-
Support for the cardiovascular system: Green tomatoes contain potassium, which helps regulate blood pressure and maintain heart health.
-
Low calorie content: Green tomatoes are low in calories, making them suitable for a diet-friendly diet.
-
Beneficial dietary fiber: Fiber in green tomatoes helps improve digestion and maintain healthy gastrointestinal function.
-
Bright taste: Unlike ripe red tomatoes, green ones have a tangy, refreshing taste, making them perfect for culinary experiments, pickling, and salads.
