BONONIA. A determinate, mid-season, and highly productive Bulgarian variety. In open ground, plants form compact, sturdy bushes about 60 cm tall, which require minimal care and show excellent resistance to unfavorable growing conditions. Fruits are rich bright red both inside and out, with no green shoulders. The flesh is dense, meaty, with a pleasant rich flavor and strong aroma. The skin is firm, and when bitten into, the fruits crunch, resembling some extra-firm cherry tomato varieties. The shape is usually round-heart, though some fruits may be more rounded.
Average fruit weight ranges from 100 to 200 g. A distinctive feature of this variety is its excellent keeping quality and transportability: harvested tomatoes remain fresh and marketable for a long time without losing flavor. Thanks to these qualities, Bononia is perfect for commercial cultivation. The fruits are versatile – ideal for fresh consumption, salads, as well as processing into sauces, juices, paste, and preserves. In the 2023 season, this Bulgarian variety proved itself to be one of the best, combining stable yields, outstanding flavor, and versatility of use.
