BRUTUS, Czech Republic. A super variety with fruits that can reach gigantic sizes – up to 20 cm in diameter and weighing up to 2 kg! Even without irrigation, we harvested fruits weighing 1.5 kg. The plant is strong and vigorous, growing up to 2.0 meters tall. Clusters bear 3–4 flat-round fruits. All of them are ribbed, multi-chambered, and fleshy. Tomatoes have a bright, rich red color.
This variety is known for its amazing taste. It’s a mid-early, large red beefsteak tomato with bright coloring and no cracking. Inside, there may be small hollows, but they don’t affect the taste: juicy, sweet, with a bold and rich tomato flavor. All fruits are large (400–500 g), but it’s better to regulate the number of fruits for best results.
AGRONOMY
To achieve the maximum size and weight of fruits, leave no more than two fruit sets per cluster. The plant should be trained into a single stem and tied up—both the stem and the fruit clusters need support on a trellis or stake. Regular pruning (removal of side shoots) and feeding with mineral fertilizers, especially during fruit development, are essential.
If you follow these agronomic guidelines, each plant can produce up to 15 kg of fruit. Thanks to its excellent flavor and high sugar content, Brutus is one of the best varieties for fresh salads and tomato juice.
