CHESTNUT CHOCOLATE. A wonderful variety by Brad Gates. Indeterminate, high-yielding, mid-season. Demonstrates increased resistance to late blight. The fruits are round, ripening to a brown-blue color with red flesh, weighing up to 160 g. Sweet, rich flavor with a strong, pleasant, and complex aroma. The fruits are very beautiful, do not rot, do not crack, remain healthy, and store well. Flavor rated 5 out of 5. Potato leaf type. The variety may show segregation in fruit color. Some fruits may look similar but be genetically different. We had two forms and selected the best, but there's no guarantee segregation has stopped.
A mid-season, beautiful new variety with anthocyanin pigmentation on the shoulders. The plant reaches 1.5 meters, strong and vigorous, with above-average productivity. Each truss contains 4-5 fruits, weighing 80-100 g. Shape is round to round-flattened. Color is brick-brown with inky anthocyanin descending from the stem to the fruit’s shoulders, reaching the middle. Inside — dark red flesh with large seed cavities. Dense, meaty, and very sweet! Top score for taste!
CHOCOLATE TOMATO VARIETIES:
Chocolate tomatoes are cultivars with brown or dark burgundy fruits that have unique traits. Here are a few things to consider when growing and selecting chocolate tomatoes:
- Color and flavor: The dark brown color results from a mix of anthocyanins (which give a purple hue) and lycopene (red pigment). Chocolate tomatoes often have a rich, sweet flavor with hints of acidity and smokiness.
- Sugar content: They may have higher sugar levels, providing sweetness, but are balanced by slight acidity for a complex flavor profile.
- Disease resistance: Many chocolate tomatoes are resistant to diseases, but some may still be vulnerable to late blight. It's important to monitor plant health and take preventive measures.
- Productivity: Like most exotic types, chocolate tomatoes vary in yield. Some are prolific, others less so, but all offer exceptional flavor.
- Growing conditions: These tomatoes thrive both in greenhouses and open ground. They love warmth and require regular watering, but avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
- Varieties: There are many chocolate tomato types such as “Chocolate Kastrulka,” “Black Prince,” “Chocolate Cherry,” and others — each with its own size, taste, and ripening time characteristics.
