DWARF PURPLE REIN (DWARF PURPLE REIN). A striking new introduction from the Dwarf Tomato Project, released in 2022. Developed by Marsha Eisenberg (USA), this variety quickly attracted collectors thanks to its extraordinary fruit coloration, elegant shape, and rich, complex flavor. It is a true gem for enthusiasts of dark-fruited tomatoes with a distinctive character. A mid-season determinate variety with a vigorous, well-balanced plant. In open-ground cultivation, plants reach approximately 1.3 m (4.3 ft) in height. Thick, sturdy stems and large, dense, dark-green foliage provide excellent protection for the fruits against excessive sunlight.
The plants are vigorous, healthy, highly tolerant of adverse weather conditions, and remain attractive throughout the growing season. Each truss produces 3-4 large fruits weighing 250-300 g. The variety offers stable yields, while the fruits are remarkably uniform and possess excellent market quality. Most fruits are beautifully heart-shaped, although some may be rounded-heart in form. Their base color is a deep rich purple, decorated with vivid emerald-green neon stripes covering nearly the entire surface.
This striking color combination makes the variety instantly recognizable among dark-fruited tomatoes. The fruits have smooth skin, resist cracking even at full maturity, and do not develop hard green shoulders around the stem. When sliced, they reveal richly purple flesh with small seed cavities. The thick walls are meaty, juicy, and full of flavor. At full maturity, the color deepens further into a rich purple-burgundy shade, while the flavor reaches its full complexity.
FLAVOR
The flavor is vibrant, rich, and multi-layered. A harmonious balance of natural sweetness and refreshing acidity is complemented by pleasant spicy notes that become especially pronounced in fully ripe fruits. The flesh is tender, juicy, aromatic, and leaves a long, memorable finish. This variety will be especially appreciated by lovers of dark-fruited tomatoes with a rich sweet-and-tart flavor and subtle spicy aroma.
Dwarf Purple Rein successfully combines compact growth, excellent plant health, ornamental fruits, and outstanding eating quality. Its unusual purple coloration with emerald stripes, elegant heart-shaped fruits, and thick juicy flesh make it one of the most remarkable modern dwarf tomato varieties and a valuable addition to any tomato collection.
