EMERALD RAIN. A collector's variety developed by Sofia Saakova (Russia), which was at the F6 or F7 stabilization stage in 2024. The variety is now almost completely stabilized, although individual plants may still show slight deviations from the standard type. It is a true treasure for collectors, combining exotic beauty, extraordinary coloration, and exceptional eating quality. This variety can rightfully be considered one of Sofia Saakova's most spectacular creations. Its fruits captivate with their harmonious shape, sophisticated palette of colors, and remarkable ornamental appeal. It is one of those tomatoes that amazes both on the vine and after the very first bite.
A mid-season indeterminate variety producing vigorous, well-developed plants. In open ground, plants reach approximately 2.0 m (6.5 ft) in height, developing strong stems that easily support the weight of the large fruits. Each truss sets 4-5 tomatoes weighing 250-350 g, ensuring consistently high yields throughout the growing season. The fruits are elegant heart-shaped with beautifully elongated pointed tips, giving them an especially refined appearance. Even immature tomatoes attract attention with their luxurious coloration. Due to their exceptional juiciness, fully ripe fruits are not intended for long-term storage.
The basic color gradually changes from light emerald green at the blossom end to rich dark green around the stem, while the upper part of each fruit is heavily covered with deep ink-purple anthocyanin pigmentation. As the fruits ripen, the palette becomes even richer, creating the impression of a naturally painted masterpiece. The interior is equally impressive. The flesh displays a rich bronze-olive color highlighted by a brilliant red core running through the center of the fruit, creating a striking contrast. Seed cavities are extremely small, with very few seeds, so nearly the entire fruit consists of juicy, tender, meaty flesh.
FLAVOR
Flavor is one of this variety's greatest strengths. It is rich, complex, and multidimensional, combining expressive fruity notes, delicate spice, and a perfect balance between natural sweetness and refreshing acidity. The flesh is so tender that it literally melts in your mouth, leaving a long and remarkably pleasant aftertaste. Emerald Rain will especially appeal to lovers of unusual green-when-ripe tomatoes with an intense fruity flavor and exotic aroma. The variety is highly productive and consistently reliable. Vigorous plants bear abundant crops throughout the season, while every truss is adorned with large, perfectly shaped, beautifully colored fruits.
Emerald Rain is a true work of art among modern tomatoes. Its skin is exceptionally thin and delicate, becoming virtually unnoticeable when eaten. One of the finest varieties bred by Sofia Saakova, it harmoniously combines spectacular coloration, an elegant heart shape, nearly seedless flesh, an extraordinarily delicate fruity flavor, and excellent productivity. A variety destined to become the jewel of any collection while providing unforgettable enjoyment both in the garden and at the table.
