GARDENER'S SWEETHEART. Bred by Will Bonsall in the USA. Released in 2014. Mid-early, indeterminate, very productive variety. Decorative bushes, where instead of flowers you’ll find fruits. The leaves are small and potato-like, barely noticeable among the abundance of fruit. Each cluster has 15 or more fruits weighing 20–30 grams.
Double trusses, often containing 24 fruits each. Adorable small heart-shaped fruits, very dense, glossy, deep red with a wonderful sweet flavor and pleasant aroma. An early variety with huge, long, and complex clusters! On a single 1.8-meter-high plant, both long and complex clusters form simultaneously.
VARIETY CHARACTERISTICS:
Very impressive – the bush looks like it’s wrapped in red beads because nearly every node produces a massive cluster. These are composed of bright red hearts on luxurious often split trusses! The shape is plum-like with a tip, resembling hearts. Fruits are perfect in appearance, dense, flattened on the sides – heart-shaped, fruity-sweet, juicy, and almost crunchy flesh!

Besides being excellent for fresh consumption, the fruits are also ideal for all types of processing – drying, dehydrating, freezing, and more. You can cut them by cluster; they store well without losing quality or taste. Highly recommended! Top marks in every category!

"Sweet Gardener’s Heart" is a cluster-type (indeterminate), mid-to-late season variety. To improve air circulation, reduce plant stress, and encourage larger fruits, it’s recommended to remove side shoots and keep 1–2 strong main stems.
– *Piennolo del Vesuvio* is a traditional Italian long-season variety (often grown for more than one season in greenhouses). It is usually trained with 2–3 stems and pruned regularly, especially in greenhouse conditions, to maintain vigor and ensure good light exposure.
– Ideally, maintain 2–3 strong stems: one main and one or two side shoots, especially for *Piennolo*. This prevents the plant from becoming overloaded and makes maintenance easier (supporting, ventilation).
– If you prefer to let it grow like a determinate type (without pruning), that’s also possible. However, the plant will become more leafy and shaded, with less airflow. The fruits may be smaller, especially on "Sweet Gardener’s Heart". Still, if this approach suits you better, you can definitely try it.
