FLASHEN TOMATEN, Germany. This variety was developed by Valeri Sonn, who stabilized the hybrid Corianne F1 (San Marzano type). The name literally means “flask” or “bottle,” referring to the fruit’s shape. It is a mid-season variety with red fruits; the bush reaches 1.3 meters in open ground, with thin but sturdy stems.
Each cluster produces up to 10 fruits weighing 20-30 grams, and when grown on a single stem, the total yield per bush can be 50-100 grams. The variety was obtained by segregating the Corianne F1 hybrid and represents a de-hybridized line of “flask tomatoes.” It produces very few seeds but stands out for high yields and sweet taste.
The fruits have a shiny surface, elongated shape, are not very juicy, and have a high dry matter content. Ideal for drying. It bears fruit until the first frost. It forms large fruit clusters. The plant has few leaves but many long fruit clusters. This is a super-productive variety — you can harvest a bucket of tomatoes from one bush.
SHAPE AND TASTE:
The fruits have a bottle-like shape typical of the "San Marzano" type, sometimes with a sharp tip or an indentation at the top. This variety is perfect for preservation due to its dense flesh, fantastic sweetness, good shelf life, and high productivity. Its high dry matter content makes it excellent for drying, freezing, slicing for various dishes, and canning.
This is a versatile tomato: it can be eaten fresh, salted, canned, or dried. Inside the fruit is pure flesh with very little juice and seeds. Highly appreciated for its dense honey-like sweetness! Top marks for appearance, flavor, and high yield.
