GREEN DOCTORS FROSTED, USA-Canada. A tomato variety of North American origin. It is a spontaneous mutation of the well-known Green Doctors variety, discovered independently in 2009 by two breeders — Jeff Casey (Canada) and Neil Lockart (Illinois, USA). Mid-season, indeterminate, extremely productive, and highly ornamental variety. Plants are very tall — over 2 meters in open ground, with strong, sprawling growth and abundant regular (non-potato-leaf) foliage.
Inflorescences are long, fan-shaped, often paired, and less commonly solitary. Each cluster can reach up to 30 cm in length and contain 30-35 fruits weighing up to 25 g. Fruits are small, round, glossy, and smooth-skinned. The flesh is very juicy, and the thin skin tends to crack, especially toward the end of the season.
VARIETY FEATURES
The taste is a true sensation! Extremely sweet — even sweeter than candy. The flavor resembles muscat grapes, with distinct fruity and spicy notes. As the fruits ripen, their aroma intensifies, and the flavor becomes deeper and more complex. A real explosion of taste! Ripe fruits acquire a translucent, frosted appearance, as if touched by frost. That’s precisely why the variety is named Frosted Green Doctor.
It was previously misnamed “Matte Green Doctor,” but the fruits are in fact glossy, not matte. This variety is ideal for fresh consumption and for decorative use in dishes, thanks to its unusual appearance and outstanding flavor. It is recommended to stake and train the plant, as it is vigorous and requires support.
