JAPANESE RED CRAB, Russia. Mid-late variety. Greenish-red, slightly flattened heart-shaped fruits. Plants grow up to 1.7 m tall, wide and sprawling. Leaves are strong and drooping. Each truss usually bears 3-4 fruits weighing 220-300 g. The fruits are medium-sized, heart-shaped, with very juicy flesh and a rich flavor. They are commonly used for salads, sauces, and canning.
The fruit shape is very beautiful and elegant — wide heart-shaped and bright. Longitudinal ribbing extends from the base to the top. Toward the tip, the fruit flattens slightly and becomes pointed. The plant is disease-resistant and does not crack. When cut, the flesh is juicy and aromatic. The taste is bright and intense, sweet with a spicy note and slight tang.
MATURITY AND FLAVOR
Mid-season variety. About 110–115 days from sowing to harvest. Bred in 2005 by breeders in Altai, specially adapted for growing in Siberia, known for its harsh climate. This cold tolerance is its main advantage. The variety copes well with temperature fluctuations. The taste is sweet and tangy. After tasting once, it’s easy to become a loyal fan. It is considered one of the best salad tomatoes.
Recommended for fresh use in salads, sandwiches, and slicing. Also suitable for processing into ketchup, lecho, paste, or juice. The juice is thick. With proper growing techniques, up to 5 kg per plant can be harvested in film greenhouses. According to the originators, the variety is immune to tobacco mosaic virus, root rot, and blossom-end rot.
