KY CYGNI. A tomato variety of American origin, bred by Dale Thurber and named after one of the largest known stars — KY Cygni, located in the Cygnus constellation. It belongs to the so-called "stellar series" of large-fruited tomato varieties. It is a mid-season, indeterminate variety. In open ground, plants reach a height of 1.5-1.7 meters, and even taller in greenhouses. The plants are vigorous, with a strong root system and dense foliage. It is recommended to grow them in 1-2 stems with regular pruning and staking.
This variety is very productive and maintains stable yields even under adverse weather conditions. For a large-fruited tomato, it has good shelf life and transportability. In the USA, it has become popular among collectors for its impressive size and outstanding taste. A known record: in Utah, a KY Cygni fruit was grown weighing 3.754 pounds (about 1.7 kg). KY Cygni is a true giant among tomatoes, combining beauty, size, yield, and remarkable flavor.
To achieve the best results, it's important to regulate the number of fruit clusters. The fruits are large, flat-round, deep red, and weigh between 500 and 800 grams. With proper care and formation, some fruits can exceed 1 kg. The flesh is dense and meaty with few seeds. The flavor is excellent — rich, sweet, with fruity notes and no acidity. Perfect for fresh eating, salads, and juicing.
