LIBERTY BELL. An old American tomato variety known primarily for its unusual shape and excellent qualities for stuffing. It is a mid-season variety: approximately 75–80 days from transplanting to the ripening of the first fruits. The plant is indeterminate and can reach about 1.4–1.5 m in height, depending on growing conditions.
The fruits have a distinctive pepper-like, ribbed shape, making them resemble sweet peppers. When ripe, they are predominantly red, with a yellowish tint sometimes remaining around the stem end. The tomatoes are small to medium-sized, usually weighing around 90–150 g, although some descriptions mention fruits reaching up to 200 g.
The main advantage of this variety is the internal structure of the fruit: the tomatoes have thick walls, meaty flesh and relatively few seeds, making them especially well suited for stuffing. They can be filled with meat, vegetables, cheese or other fillings, as well as used for baking and preparing a variety of homemade dishes.
