MATT D'IMPERIO. A family heirloom variety from the town of Matt Mours, Pennsylvania. The seeds were brought to the United States in the early 1900s by an Italian immigrant. The fruits have dense, juicy flesh and a rich, full-bodied flavor — excellent for salads. The plant is vigorous, with fine, wispy foliage and indeterminate growth. It is highly productive and grows strongly.
In open ground, the plants reach a height of 1.8 to 2 meters. Produces well in mid-season. Requires staking and pruning. Fruits are elongated, plum-shaped with a distinctive pointed tip and deep red color. Fruit weight ranges from 150 to 250 grams. The flesh is meaty and juicy, with a dense texture and few seeds.
Flavor is one of this variety’s strongest features — bright, rich, with a pronounced tanginess and a pleasant sweetness that create a balanced and truly "explosive" taste. The tomatoes have excellent market quality and are suitable for fresh consumption as well as processing — especially good in sauces, juices, and salads. The variety is resistant to cracking and handles transport well.
