McKINLEY. An old heirloom variety from Kentucky, USA. Mentioned in the Seed Savers Yearbook as early as 1988, it entered commercial circulation only in 2014 thanks to Tatiana’s Tomatobase. There is some confusion regarding foliage type — both regular and potato leaf versions exist, but the official standard is the regular leaf. Plants are tall, up to 1.8 meters, indeterminate in growth habit, and require staking and pruning.
This is a mid-season variety with high productivity under proper care. Fruits are large, weighing from 300 to 700 g, with some reaching up to 1 kg. Shape is round and slightly flattened, with gentle ribbing near the stem and mild shoulder undulations, especially in larger specimens. The color is deep pink; the flesh is dense, meaty, and very juicy with few seed chambers. The flavor is refined, sweet, and rich, with a strong tomato aroma.
Excellent for sandwiches, fresh eating, and salads. Thanks to its resistance to common diseases, the variety performs well in different climates. Our top pink tomato of the 2022 season — one of the best in its class.
