BLACK MIKADO. A rather rare and unusual variety that attracts attention with its exotic dark-colored fruits. The plants are indeterminate and tall, usually reaching 1.5–2 m, so they require support and tying. Depending on growing conditions, the variety can be cultivated both outdoors and in a greenhouse. The ripening period is early to mid-season, with a relatively uniform and abundant fruit set. The fruits are large, round or flattened-round, with slight ribbing around the stem end.
Depending on the line and growing conditions, they usually weigh about 200–400 g, while individual fruits can be even larger with good care. When fully ripe, the tomatoes range in color from burgundy-brown to dark brownish-pink, which is why they are often classified as chocolate tomatoes. The flesh is meaty, juicy, and sugary, with a sweet flavor, a pleasant slight acidity, and sometimes fruity notes. The tomatoes are especially suitable for fresh salads, slicing, and preparing various homemade dishes.
