MINI BELL ORANGE. An early-ripening variety of sweet bell pepper. Compact plants, only about 35 cm tall, form neat bushes abundantly covered with miniature fruits weighing around 25 g. The fruits are thin-walled, round in shape, and have a bright orange color that gives the plants a decorative look. The variety originates from the state of Ohio, where it was considered a family heirloom. These peppers were first introduced at the Seed Savers Exchange by gardener Lucina Cress.
Lucina received the seeds from an elderly neighbor and began growing them herself. Over time, the variety gained local popularity: every year, Lucina prepared hundreds of jars of pickled peppers stuffed with cabbage and sold them at the church bazaar. Thanks to their unusual flavor and convenient size, these peppers quickly became well known in the region. The mini bell peppers, about 5 cm (2 inches) in size, are especially valued for their versatility and are perfect for stuffing and appetizers.
This variety is very convenient for pickling and preserving. It is excellent for home cooking, offering a delicate sweetness and fine aroma. In addition to their culinary qualities, the plants are highly decorative. Compact bushes covered with bright orange balls can be grown not only in open ground but also in containers or pots, making them easy to use as a houseplant or as part of ornamental garden compositions.
