MURASAKI PURPLE. An heirloom sweet pepper variety of Japanese origin, originating from Nara Prefecture. It stands out not only for its unusual fruits but also for its high ornamental value. The plant reaches 70–100 cm in height, developing purple stems, prominent leaf veins, and delicate purple flowers. Its distinctive coloring makes it an attractive feature throughout the growing season.
The fruits are small and conical, with smooth, glossy skin. At the technical maturity stage, they are a rich dark purple that can appear almost black under certain lighting conditions. As they ripen, their color gradually changes to dark red. This characteristic allows fruits of different shades to be seen on the same plant, making it even more appealing.
The pepper is completely non-hot, with a heat level of 0 SHU. Its flesh is crisp and juicy, with a pleasant, mild, sweet flavor. The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption and for preparing a variety of dishes. Their flavor is especially enhanced when they are fried in vegetable oil, becoming aromatic and developing a richer taste.
The plants can be grown outdoors, in greenhouses, or in suitable containers. This variety is an excellent choice for pepper enthusiasts who appreciate not only flavor but also the unusual appearance of vegetable plants. Its purple stems, distinctive flowers, and striking fruits make it an attractive addition to the garden and a worthy addition to any sweet pepper collection.
