PINEAPPLE ZEBRA (ANANAS ZEBRA). A variety bred by Tom Wagner in 2005 from a cross between the famous “Pineapple” and “Green Zebra” tomatoes. After more than ten years of meticulous breeding work, it was officially released in 2016. The plant is medium-tall, indeterminate, with moderate foliage, reaching 1.3-1.5 m in height when grown outdoors. Mid-season and exceptionally productive. The flavor delights with a harmonious balance of sweetness and fruity acidity, accompanied by a rich aroma.
Fruits are large, hefty beefsteak type, with characteristic rounded shoulders that can give the largest specimens an irregular shape. Weight ranges from 250 to 500 g, with some tomatoes exceeding this size. The bicolor, marbled flesh combines yellow and red streaks, as in “Pineapple,” with added pink and green shades, creating a remarkably attractive pattern. The skin is painted in a complex blend of pink and green with patterns reminiscent of the popular Berkeley Tie Dye variety.
The flesh is dense, meaty, multi-chambered, and very juicy. Perfect for fresh eating, slicing into salads, and creating spectacular tomato platters. In our trials, the variety scored top marks in all categories — flavor, yield, and appearance. Fruiting is stable and extended through mid-season, while its decorative appeal and unique coloration make it a true gem in any garden.
