POMBRIEGO DEL BIERZO. A variety from the El Bselzo region (Castile and León, north-western Spain) — mid-season, tall, and exceptionally productive, distinguished by its vigorous growth and impressive yields. In open ground, plants reach about 1.8 meters in height, forming strong, densely foliated bushes that remain literally covered with fruit from the start to the end of the season. The main highlight — large-fruited premium-class pink tomatoes.
Fruits are large, uniform, and pink with a warm hue — true meaty giants weighing from 400 to 800 grams, and under favorable conditions, some specimens can exceed this range. The thick yet tender skin ensures excellent transportability and resistance to cracking, while the dense, rich pink flesh combines meatiness and juiciness, making the fruits versatile for both fresh consumption and processing.
Flavor is harmonious, with a perfect balance of natural sugars and moderate acidity — rich and distinctly “tomato-like,” rated at the maximum 5 points by tasters. Thanks to their large, showy fruits, the variety is ideal for salads, fresh platters, and festive dishes, as well as for thick sauces and pastes. Plants have a long harvest period, are resistant to major diseases, and set fruit reliably even under fluctuating weather conditions.
