RED ZEBRA. An indeterminate tomato variety, with plants in open ground reaching about 1.5 meters in height. Mid-season and highly productive, this variety is notable for its consistent fruit set even under unfavorable weather conditions. The plants are strong and well-leaved, providing excellent ventilation and protecting the fruits from sunscald. The fruits are firm, round, with a bright red color adorned with golden stripes, weighing 40-80 grams.
The flesh is juicy, aromatic, with a well-balanced sweet-and-sour flavor, making this tomato highly versatile: equally good for fresh eating, canning, and sauce preparation. The variety is easy to grow and highly resistant to diseases, making it an excellent choice for both experienced gardeners and beginners. Its history is unique: it first appeared in the 1990s in California.
The tomatoes grew in Jeff Dawson’s garden among Green Zebra plants, which led to the assumption that the variety resulted from a cross between Green Zebra and an unknown red parent. Later, Jeff Dawson cultivated this unique tomato and developed four distinct lines, one of which became the famous Red Zebra. A tomato with an unmistakable look and flavor that has earned recognition from gardeners worldwide.
