WEST VIRGINIA STRAW. An old American heirloom with impressive yield potential, highly valued by rare-variety collectors. This indeterminate plant shows vigorous growth and sturdy stems, reaching about 170 cm in open ground while forming dense, well-leafed bushes with attractive dark-green, potato-type foliage. It tolerates short periods of drought and temperature fluctuations remarkably well, remaining consistently productive even in challenging weather conditions.
Fruits are large, meaty, and multi-chambered, with firm yet tender, juicy flesh and a harmonious flavor that balances sweetness with a gentle tang. Shapes range from round-flattened to distinctly heart-shaped. The skin is smooth and thin but strong enough for good keeping quality and transport. Few seeds are present, making the variety especially prized for salads and fresh eating. Average fruit weight is 250-500 g, with some reaching over 600 g under optimal care.
