BRANDYWINE COWLICK'S. A tall, indeterminate, mid-season variety developed in the USA. One of the most recognizable members of the Brandywine series. The plant has a strong, well-foliated bush with potato-type leaves, typical of many heirloom American varieties. Requires staking and pruning, ideally into 2–3 stems, to balance growth and fruit production.

Fruits are very large — often reaching 400–500 grams with proper care, though the average weight is around 300 grams. All fruits are uniform, round-flat in shape with slight ribbing near the stem. The skin is thin yet durable, resistant to cracking during ripening and transportation. The color is rich pink with a glossy, velvety finish, making the fruits highly attractive.

The flesh is exceptionally juicy and meaty with a silky texture. Flavor is one of the variety's strongest points - intensely sweet with a distinct fruity note and a bright, balanced acidity that enhances the natural sweetness. It had been stored for who knows how many years. But what a delicious variety... now I truly understand what people mean by "Brandywine-type flesh." I’ll definitely be trying the others from this line.

I bought the seeds out of curiosity. I wanted to see what “Brandywine” was all about. And I ended up with incredibly delicious fruits! Grown in a greenhouse. I had just one plant, grown in two stems. It turned out tall and elegant. The leaves are potato-type: broad, large, but not dense. The plant responds well to feeding. The stem can get quite thick. In a single stem, the plant spreads about 50 cm wide. The foliage density is around 70% at the bottom and 30% at the top. The tomatoes are juicy, with a rich, well-balanced flavor: just as bold and bright as Oxheart tomatoes. I’d rate it 5+ out of 5. So far, I’ve harvested around 3.5 kg, but there’s clear potential for at least 5 kg.

Is a mid-season variety with potato-type foliage. The fruits are round, smooth, and glossy, with a deep pink color, weighing between 200 and 400 grams on average. The flesh is tender - Brandywine-style, the kind you can eat with a spoon - juicy and incredibly flavorful. After tasting this variety, I finally understood what Brandywine-type flesh really means. I’ll be growing it again every year for sure.

This is an incredibly tasty variety. The only one that can rival it in flavor might be the Brandywine from Glick’s line. Its taste is flawlessly balanced — that classic tomato flavor with just the right sweetness. The aroma, texture, richness, and balance are textbook-perfect.

I first grew it outdoors in 2020. It wasn’t very productive that year (likely adapting to conditions), but the fruits were fairly large. The very first bite I took was so good, I immediately saved the seeds from that fruit. I love sweet tomatoes, my father prefers more classic ones — but Brandywine Cowlick’s won us both over. It’s that old-fashioned taste — you just bite right in, and that’s it.

In 2022, I planted it in the greenhouse hoping for better yields. It did perform better than outdoors, but not spectacularly — we had a very hot summer, and all varieties struggled for about 2.5 weeks. Brandywine Cowlick’s is slow to start setting fruit, but does much better in the second half of the season. It doesn’t tolerate extreme heat well. The first fruits in the greenhouse lacked some sweetness, but the flavor balanced out later.

The plant itself is strong, with large potato-type leaves. In the greenhouse, internodes were quite long. The clusters need to be tied up, as they may bend or break even under a light load (although this might’ve also been due to my watering schedule).
