GRANDPA WILLIE. This variety originates from the state of Pennsylvania (USA) and has been known since 1907. It is a family heirloom preserved by the family of William Malin. Listed in the Seed Savers Yearbook in 2007, which confirms its value and recognition among collectors and rare variety enthusiasts. The plants are tall, with potato-type foliage, requiring staking and pruning. In open ground, they reach up to 1.5 meters in height, and up to 1.8 meters in greenhouses.
The variety is mid-season, high-yielding, and features consistent and synchronized fruiting. Fruits are large, heart-shaped, without a pronounced tip, with light ribbing near the stem. All fruits are uniform in size, firm, dense, with excellent transportability and resistance to cracking. The flesh is both juicy and meaty, with a rich, bright flavor and a refreshing hint of acidity.
While not a dessert tomato, the taste is highly rated — balanced, rich, and definitely a 5 out of 5. The average fruit weight is 300-500 g, with some reaching 600-700 g. The variety has excellent market qualities and versatile culinary use — ideal for salads, processing, and cooking. A long-time, reliable classic of our collection.
