MORDOVIAN BLUES. A popular collector's variety bred by Nikolai Zhigalin, distinguished by its large yellow fruits with striking anthocyanin coloration. This is a mid-season indeterminate tomato with an unusual appearance, excellent flavor, and impressive fruit size. The vigorous, sturdy plant reaches about 1.8 m (6 ft) in open ground and requires staking and training. Each truss produces 2–4 fruits weighing 300–550 g, with some growing even larger. Yields are stable and around average.
The fruits are large, flattened-round, and rich golden-yellow. At the beginning of ripening, the anthocyanin pigmentation appears only on the shoulders, but later in the season the dark chocolate markings become more intense and may extend downward in streaks. This distinctive coloring makes the variety especially ornamental and easily recognizable. A versatile tomato, though its large fruits are best suited for fresh salads and slicing. The thin skin and abundant flesh make it especially enjoyable fresh.
FLAVOR
The flesh is dense, meaty, juicy, and virtually free of cavities, with a delicate skin. The flavor is rich and well balanced, predominantly sweet with pleasant fruity notes and a light refreshing acidity. Its intense aroma, tender texture, and complex flavor make Mordovan Blues one of the most interesting large-fruited anthocyanin tomato varieties for collectors and true tomato enthusiasts.
