OLD FLAME, USA. A medium-tall, highly productive heirloom variety with an extended harvest season. This famous American bicolor has long been regarded as a classic, celebrated for its outstanding sweetness and unforgettable aroma. Mid-season, indeterminate plants grow up to 1.9 m (6.2 ft) in open ground. Each truss produces 4–5 fruits weighing 250–300 g (9–11 oz). Fruits are flattened-round, golden yellow with a delicate pink blush. They are exceptionally sweet, juicy, and rich in flavor, with a pleasant candy-like aroma. The flesh is vividly colored, highly aromatic, and contains only a few small seed cavities. A slight touch of acidity perfectly balances the sweetness.
Early in the season, fruits are yellow-orange with a small red "cap" from which bright red streaks radiate. The ripe flesh is tender and very juicy, so large fruits may soften slightly during storage. Despite their impressive size, they are among the earliest large-fruited tomatoes to ripen. Another outstanding feature is their consistently excellent flavor throughout the season. When the fruit becomes slightly soft to the touch, it is ready to harvest. As it ripens, both the exterior and interior gradually change from yellow-pink to a rich orange-pink.
