OLD GERMAN. An heirloom tomato variety originating from the Mennonite community of Virginia, USA. This historic family variety has been passed down through generations since the mid-19th century, preserving its unique traits and exceptional flavor. It is a true garden heritage, valued for its stability, resilience, and outstanding taste. The plants are tall, with strong, sturdy stems that require staking and pruning. In open ground, plants reach about 160 cm in height, and even taller in greenhouses.
This is a mid-season variety — the first fruits ripen about 110-115 days after sowing. It is known for its high productivity — each plant produces many clusters with 4-6 fruits each. Fruits are small, weighing up to 200 grams, with a round or slightly flattened shape. One of the key features is that the longer the fruits ripen on the vine, the sweeter, richer in color, and more intense in flavor they become. The skin and flesh are deep orange-red with no green shoulders.
When fully ripe, the color deepens to a rich dark red with orange highlights. A true delicacy for gourmets. These tomatoes are not just sweet — they are incredibly, almost honey-sweet, with a pronounced fruity aroma and minimal acidity. The variety shows good resistance to diseases and weather fluctuations, making it an excellent choice for organic farming and natural cultivation.
