PERMYAK. An old variety that can rightly be called a true family heirloom. Its history goes back about 80 years, and the seeds were carefully preserved and passed down from generation to generation by the Kozhevnikov family from Siberia. This is a true giant variety, capable of producing incredibly large fruits, with individual specimens exceeding 1 kg. The plant is strong and spreading, reaching about 1.8 m in height in the open ground. The bush is highly productive and can support clusters bearing 2–3 very large fruits.
Numerous clusters are formed, making the plant look literally covered with heavy tomatoes. Reliable staking and regular removal of suckers are required, and the plant can be trained to one or two stems. The fruits are very impressive, large, glossy, deep red and unusually shaped. Some are strongly ribbed and resemble large ridges, while others have an elongated, slightly flattened plum-heart shape. The average fruit weight is 500–1000 g, with individual tomatoes capable of growing even larger.
The variety is especially valued for its complete lack of green shoulders, which is quite rare in tomatoes of such impressive size. The flesh is dense and meaty, with few seeds and pleasant juiciness. The flavor is mild, delicate, well balanced and sweet, without excessive acidity. The fruits are excellent for fresh eating and various culinary preparations, and thanks to the internal cavities they are especially suitable for stuffing: there is plenty of room for filling, while the firm walls help the fruit retain its shape.
