YELLOW STUFFER. Also known as Golden Stuffer or Jaune à farcir, this is an original mid-to-late-season tomato variety developed specifically for stuffing. The fruits have an unusual cube-like, slightly ribbed shape and a bright golden-yellow color. They resemble sweet peppers and weigh approximately 70–150 g each. The variety’s main feature is its thick, fleshy walls and almost hollow interior, containing only a small amount of seeds and juice. Thanks to this structure, the fruits retain their shape well and are ideal for stuffing with meat, rice, vegetables, and other fillings.
The tomatoes can also be baked, used in cold appetizers, or served fresh. Their flavor is mild, with characteristic tomato notes. The plants are tall and indeterminate, reaching approximately 1.5–2 m in height, so they require staking and pruning of side shoots. The fruits ripen approximately 76–85 days after transplanting. Under favorable conditions, the plants continue producing until the first frosts.
VARIETY HISTORY
This is a stable, open-pollinated variety whose characteristics can be maintained when grown from saved seeds, provided proper pollination is ensured. According to available descriptions, the variety is associated with Siberian origins and is registered with GNIS. It is believed to be the same variety as the French Jaune à farcir. Another account suggests that it was developed by Colen Wyatt of Petoseed in 1988. Yellow Stuffer is an excellent choice for gardeners looking for unusual yellow tomatoes with a distinctive shape, thick fleshy walls, and a special culinary purpose.
