ARBOGAST, USA. This variety is highly appreciated by both international collectors and local gardeners. It is a true American family heirloom, passed down by John S. Baylor. The variety traces its origins to Sunbury, Pennsylvania, where the grandmother of a local gardener developed it and lovingly passed it down through generations.
A mid-season variety (85 days from germination to fruiting), tall-growing, resilient to unfavorable conditions, and consistently high-yielding even in changing climates. The plant is hardy and adapts well to different soil types. Leaves are of the regular type. Bears fruit annually, regardless of the growing region — from northern to southern areas.
VARIETY CHARACTERISTICS
The tomatoes have a pronounced sweet flavor with a rich aroma reminiscent of old-fashioned varieties that were grown before hybrids became widespread. Thanks to these taste qualities, the variety is prized by gourmets and collectors. Highly recommended for those who appreciate traditional varieties with a rich history and a genuine “homegrown” taste.
Plants reach about 1.5 meters in height and require staking and pruning. The fruits are large, weighing between 200 and 350 grams, with an attractive pink color, thin nearly invisible skin, and soft, juicy, meaty flesh. Ideal for fresh consumption, as well as for juices, salads, and sauces.
PINK TOMATO VARIETIES:
Pink tomatoes are known for their unique qualities that make them popular among gardeners and food enthusiasts. Key characteristics include:
- Flavor. Pink tomatoes usually have a rich, sweet taste with minimal acidity. Perfect for fresh eating, salads, juices, and sauces.
- Texture. Flesh is dense, juicy, and meaty. Often contain fewer seeds than red varieties, which is valued by fans of thick texture.
- Appearance. Their delicate pink color is visually appealing and elegant. Shades range from light pink to deep raspberry.
- Size and shape. Large-fruited: many pink varieties produce fruits weighing 300–800 g or more. Medium and small-fruited: also available as cherry and plum types, suitable for canning and snacks.
- Disease sensitivity. Pink tomatoes often require more care than red ones and may be less resistant to blight and fungal diseases.
- Growing conditions. Prefer stable temperatures and strong lighting. Sensitive to deficiencies in potassium and magnesium, which affect flavor and color.
