BIG CHIEF STRIPED. A modern tomato variety that has quickly gained popularity for its outstanding traits. Developed by American breeder Bill Jeffers, it is a natural continuation of the successful Big Cheef line, which originated from a cross between the legendary Brandywine Sudduth and an unknown parent variety.
Thanks to its genetic background, this tomato combines exceptional flavor with stable productivity. It is an indeterminate plant with vigorous growth and dense, potato-type foliage. In open ground, it can reach up to 1.5 meters in height and thrives especially well in full sun. Notably, this variety performs best in open-field cultivation.
FEATURES OF THE TOMATO
The fruits are flat-round in shape, weighing between 150 and 300 grams. The flesh is pink, marbled, meaty, multi-lobed, juicy yet dense — ideal for a wide range of uses. It offers a perfectly balanced sweet and tangy flavor. The yield is steady and extended.
Equally suited for fresh salads and cooking (sauces, paste, preservation). Visually striking with its bright pink skin and cream/yellow stripes. The thick skin provides excellent shelf life and resistance to cracking. Peak harvest occurs mid-season.
THE BIG CHIEF TOMATO LINE
A signature collection of large beefsteak-type tomatoes known for rich flavor, firm texture, and high yields. Originating from a natural cross of Brandywine Sudduth with an unknown tomato, this line was developed in the USA.
