CORLEONE. An exceptionally hardy tomato variety from sunny Sicily, traditionally grown in the village of Petralia Soprana in the province of Palermo. Over many years, it has adapted to hot weather and limited moisture, developing excellent heat tolerance. The plants cope well with challenging weather conditions and are resistant to many diseases. This variety is especially suitable for gardeners looking for low-maintenance tomatoes for hot regions and areas where regular watering is not always possible.
The plant is compact and determinate, reaching approximately 50 cm in height, with a sturdy structure and high productivity. Despite its small size, it produces numerous fruits and provides a generous harvest. This is a mid-season variety, with tomatoes typically weighing 100–150 g. The fruits can be round or elongated, with slight ribbing and an attractive, deep red color. Their thick skin and firm walls help them retain their shape and remain appealing long after harvesting.
The flesh is meaty, smooth, and firm, with few seeds. The small seed chambers take up little space, leaving a substantial amount of flesh. This makes Corleone an excellent choice for preparing thick sauces, tomato paste, and homemade preserves. The fruits are also well suited to fresh eating, salads, and a variety of summer dishes. Another practical advantage is their good storage quality: under suitable conditions, harvested tomatoes can keep for approximately three to four weeks.
