YELLOW FLAME, JAUNE FLAMME. An old French tomato variety, a rare heirloom discovered by tomato enthusiast Norbert Perreira in the small French town of Héliner. The variety was commercialized in 1997 by the well-known American company Tomato Growers Supply Company, which specializes in elite tomato varieties. The plant is indeterminate, early-ripening, and resistant to diseases.
In open ground, it reaches about 1.5-1.6 m in height and grows well both outdoors and in protected environments. The fruits grow in elongated clusters and ripen evenly throughout the season. The tomatoes are apricot-orange in color, round to heart-shaped, and weigh up to 100 g. The skin is dense and yellow-orange, yet thin and pleasant to taste. The flesh is meaty and juicy, with few seeds.
The flavor is sweet with pronounced fruity and citrus notes, offering an ideal balance of sugar and acidity. The taste intensifies when the fruits are roasted or slowly dried, while retaining their rich color and aroma. This variety is highly versatile — perfect for fresh eating, sauces, roasting, canning, drying, and freezing.
