BLACK FROM ARIZCUREN (NEGRO DE ARIZCUREN). A mid-season, semi-determinate, highly productive tomato variety that can rightfully be considered one of the rarest family heirlooms, now on the verge of extinction. This variety is a true gem for collectors and connoisseurs of unique tomatoes. The seeds were sent to us from Spain as part of a local heritage preservation program. Plants reach about 1.2-1.3 meters in height when grown outdoors.
The bushes are strong, with thick stems and dense foliage that reliably protects the fruits from sun and pests, creating optimal ripening conditions. The fruits are beautiful, uniform, round, weighing between 200 and 300 grams. The flesh is meaty, juicy, with a dense core and no excess wateriness. They hold their shape well when sliced and are excellent for both fresh consumption and culinary use — in salads or sauces.
VARIETY CHARACTERISTICS
The flavor is rich, bright, and well-balanced, with a distinct sweetness and a hint of acidity. Even at different ripeness stages, the tomatoes retain outstanding taste. Tasting score: 5+ out of 5. The fruit color is striking and memorable — deep red-black with green-brown shoulders. This coloring makes the tomatoes visually unique and attractive. All fruits are well hidden within the foliage, which provides additional protection from heat and dehydration.
We’ve been growing this variety on our plot for several seasons in a row, and it consistently delights with high yields, reliability, and superb taste. Recommended for outdoor cultivation. Perfect for private collections or for farmers specializing in rare and premium tomato varieties.
