PURPLE SMUDGE GOLD. A mid-early American heirloom sweet pepper variety. Distinguished by its unusual coloration and ornamental appeal, making it equally suitable for fresh consumption and for decorating the garden. At the early stage of ripening, the fruits have a delicate milky-white shade with a creamy blush. Later, purple streaks and smudges with an anthocyanin “ink-like” sheen appear on the surface, giving the plants a striking appearance.
At full biological maturity, the peppers develop a rich dark-yellow color with characteristic anthocyanin shading. Plants are compact, 50-60 cm tall, well-leaved, which protects the fruits from sunscald. The fruits are cuboid, uniform in shape, weighing 150-200 g. Walls are thick (6-8 mm), juicy, and fleshy. The flavor is sweet and aromatic, making this variety highly versatile in cooking.
These peppers are excellent for fresh use (especially in salads), stuffing, roasting, and also for winter preparations such as canning, freezing, and pickling. Thanks to their firm walls, they retain shape and flavor even after heat treatment. The variety is valued by gardeners for its ornamental qualities, stable yield, and outstanding taste.
