RED BUTTER HEART. Mid-early, large-fruited variety with a heart-flattened shape. The plant is 1 meter tall, with 3-4 fruits per cluster, each weighing 400-500 g. Average yield. Shape – heart-shaped and slightly flattened. The fruits are large, firm, juicy, and very meaty. The flesh is rich red, with small seed cavities and few seeds. This variety was first introduced in the 1998 Seed Savers Yearbook by Jeff Dawson. An indeterminate plant with regular leaves, producing large, pink (not red) heart-shaped fruits in clusters of 5-6 tasty tomatoes. The shape ranges from heart to rounded-heart.
It is a high-yielding variety with enhanced disease resistance. The fruits are firm, meaty, up to 400 g, juicy, and flavorful. Excellent sweet taste. The first ripe fruits are rated 5 out of 5 for taste – aromatic, not acidic, but not candy-sweet either. After full ripening, the sugar content increases. If your fruits are red, it means it's a different variety. We also had a plant with red and very large fruits, which we removed, hoping it was a seed mix-up, not a variation within the variety. Why the breeder called a pink-fruited variety “red” — only he knows. Excellent for juice, sauces, and paste.
