SARNOWSKI POLISH PLUM. A mid-season, tall, and exceptionally productive tomato variety developed by Mike Sarnowski in the USA. The history of this variety dates back to the late 19th century: Mike Sarnowski’s ancestors, who emigrated from Poland in the 1890s, brought the seeds of this tomato with them, and since then it has been carefully preserved and improved within the family. The plants are strong, densely foliated, with well-developed shoots and thin, regular, slightly lace-like leaves.
This tomato is highly disease-resistant, making it reliable even under challenging growing conditions. The fruits are long, reaching up to 18 cm, red, firm, and very meaty. They have minimal juice and very few seeds, making this variety ideal for processing — making thick sauces, pastes, ketchup, and lecho. Due to their meaty texture, the fruits hold their shape well when sliced and are suitable for drying.
The flavor is remarkably harmonious: the flesh is sweet, tender, and not overly acidic. For its excellent taste and stable productivity, the variety has earned a top rating of 5+ from gardeners and collectors. It is one of the best representatives of meaty “paste” tomatoes, combining a rich history, low maintenance, and exceptional fruit quality.
