SERGEANT PASCAL. An original variety bred by amateur tomato breeder N. V. Zhegalin, developed by crossing the legendary Sgt. Pepper's and Pascal de Picardie. A mid-season, high-yielding variety that combines the finest traits of both parents: an unusual fruit shape, striking coloration, and outstanding dessert-quality flavor. Indeterminate plants grow to about 1.5 m (5 ft) in open ground. The bushes are vigorous, well-foliated, with thin, slightly drooping leaves, and set fruit reliably throughout the season.
The fruits are large, weighing 250-270 g (9-10 oz), with a beautiful elongated heart shape that combines the classic heart of Sgt. Pepper's with the elongated plum shape of Pascal de Picardie. The primary color is rich pink, while the shoulders develop a striking blue-purple anthocyanin blush, which becomes more intense under strong sunlight. The tomatoes are firm, meaty, free of green shoulders and coarse fibers, transport well, and have excellent market appeal. Productivity is consistently high.
FLAVOR
The flesh is exceptionally dense, juicy, tender, and meaty, with very few seeds and almost no fibers. The flavor is rich, well-balanced, and intensely sweet, with pronounced fruity-spicy notes and a pleasant tomato aroma. The combination of its unusual shape, spectacular anthocyanin coloring, and remarkable flavor makes Sergeant Pascal one of the most interesting modern tomato varieties.
