BLACK STALLION (STALLONE NERO). A mid-season variety of old Italian selection that combines an unusual appearance with an expressive flavor. The plants are vigorous and tall, reaching about 2 m even outdoors. The variety sets fruit well even in extreme heat without dropping its blossoms. An interesting feature is that two different fruit types can develop simultaneously on the same plant, which is characteristic of some old Italian varieties. Most of the crop consists of long, pepper-shaped tomatoes with small, closely spaced ribs. Alongside these, more unusual fruits can also appear — broad, laterally flattened and strongly ribbed, resembling a large plum.
When ripe, the tomatoes develop a rich chocolate-burgundy color, and individual fruits can weigh more than 300 g. The flower trusses are simple and usually produce 3–4 fruits. The flesh is reddish-brown, dense, and almost seedless, with a rich sweet flavor and a classic tomato aroma. The skin is firm, which helps the fruits resist cracking and maintain good quality. The tomatoes produce a thick juice with very little acidity and a pleasantly sweet taste.
Thanks to these qualities, the variety is suitable for making sauces and tomato paste, as well as for canning, drying, and fresh consumption. Growing this variety requires standard care for tall tomatoes: regular watering, timely feeding, staking, and protection from diseases and pests. It is particularly interesting for those who appreciate old Italian varieties with unusual fruit shapes, good heat tolerance, dense meaty flesh, and a rich sweet flavor.
