SWEET OZARK ORANGE. This variety is a relatively recent achievement in breeding. It was developed by the renowned specialist Sam Womack by crossing two remarkable varieties: 'Dr. Wyche's Yellow' and 'Strawberry German Red', which explains its unique color, texture, and outstanding taste qualities inherited from the parent forms. The variety belongs to the category of tall and mid-to-late season tomatoes.
The plant forms exceptionally powerful, strong bushes that, in open ground conditions, can reach a height of up to two meters, which requires mandatory staking to a reliable support and timely pinching. It is important to note that the presented description is based on our observations of plants grown in conditions far from ideal: in significant shade, with an acute lack of sunlight, and on very poor, acidic soil.
VARIETY FEATURES
It can be confidently assumed that when planted in a sunny, wind-protected location and in nutritious, well-worked soil, all the characteristics of the variety—the size of the fruits, their quantity, and taste—will manifest much more brightly and fully. Despite such Spartan conditions, the variety demonstrated its outstanding qualities. The fruits are large and very large, their weight varies from 250 to 600 grams. They have a rich and bright orange color.
The main distinguishing feature of these tomatoes is their incredible density and meatiness—they contain very few seeds and have dry, dense, apricot-colored flesh of a truly melon-like consistency. The taste of the fruits deserves special attention—it is complex, multifaceted, full, and rich. A rich sweet taste with a barely perceptible fruity note perfectly combines with the dense, "meaty" texture of the pulp, making these tomatoes an excellent choice for fresh consumption.
