BARNES MOUNTAIN YELLOW, USA. Vigorous bushes with outstanding productivity of uniform giants — rated 5 out of 5. The fruits are smooth beefsteaks with excellent flavor and aroma, buttery, and moderately juicy. Weight ranges from 300 to 700 grams. Height up to 2 m, but with proper care, it can reach 3 m. Taste score: 5 — sweet, mild, and fruity. The main feature: fruits have virtually no cavities — just solid flesh with very few seeds. Described in the Seed Savers Yearbook in 2001.
A very old heirloom variety originating in the mountains of Barnes Estill County, Kentucky. Also known as: Barnes Mountain Yellow, Barnes Mountain Orange, Barnes Mountain. Large beefsteak fruits, slightly flattened with more or less pronounced ribbing on the shoulders. Orange-yellow with a pink blush. Meaty yellow flesh with a very sweet taste, yet with some acidity — the classic flavor of old-fashioned tomatoes. Under optimal growing conditions, the plant can reach up to 3 m.
