CANDLE IN THE WIND. A well-known heirloom variety of amateur breeding that has gained wide popularity and is considered one of the finest pepper-shaped tomatoes from the Minusinsk selection. It combines high productivity, reliability, and outstanding flavor, making it a favorite among tomato enthusiasts for many years. An early-midseason variety with elongated red plum-shaped fruits ending in a neat little tip. In open-ground cultivation, the plant grows to about 1.2 m, with a graceful habit and long, drooping leaves.
Each truss produces 5–6 uniform fruits weighing 75–90 g. The fruits are firm, attractive, crack-resistant, and highly tolerant to common diseases, including blossom-end rot. They ripen evenly right to the stem without green shoulders or fibrous tissue. The skin is thin yet durable and barely noticeable when eaten. The variety produces consistently high yields even under less favorable growing conditions. Plum tomatoes are valued for their elongated shape, dense flesh, and versatility.
FLAVOR
The flesh is deep red, very juicy, meaty, and sweet, with a rich, well-balanced tomato flavor and a pleasant aroma. There are only a few seed cavities, providing a high proportion of flesh. Thanks to the delicate, thin skin, the fruits are especially enjoyable fresh. Its superb flavor, excellent productivity, healthy fruits, and versatility have made Candle in the Wind one of the most valuable heirloom varieties. Equally suitable for fresh eating, whole-fruit canning, juices, sauces, ketchup, and tomato paste.
