GIANT ITALIAN PASTE (PRIMO). Tall, vigorous plants with slender yet sturdy stems, reaching up to 1.5 meters in open ground. Requires staking and pruning, especially during peak fruiting periods, due to its high productivity. Fruits are large, elongated pear-shaped, deep red in color, weighing between 100 and 250 grams. The flesh is dense, meaty, and low in juice — ideal for processing.
Outstanding flavor: a well-balanced sweetness with a hint of acidity creates a rich, harmonious taste. Perfect for fresh consumption in salads and appetizers, as well as for cooking. Especially valued for making tomato paste, sauces, ketchup, lecho, and other preserves. Thanks to the firm texture, the fruits hold their shape when cooked and do not break apart.
VARIETY HISTORY
This is a true heirloom Italian variety, known since the early 1900s. Considered a family treasure, carefully preserved and passed down through generations in northern Italy. Local farmers traditionally harvest slowly — the fruits can stay on the plant for a long time without losing quality or cracking.
Also known worldwide as Primo — the ideal paste tomato. Suitable for both home gardeners and professional growers. Resistant to common diseases, tolerant of temperature fluctuations and drought. Highly recommended for lovers of traditional varieties!
