HENDERSON'S PINK PONDEROSA. An heirloom tomato variety from the USA, famous for its massive fruits. First introduced in 1891 by Peter Henderson & Co., and later featured in the Burpee catalog of 1914. Registered with GNIS in 2010. One of the oldest large-fruited tomato varieties, known for its rich pink to purplish fruits. Also known worldwide under the names Ponderosa Pink, Rose Ponderosa, and Henderson's Pink. The plant is indeterminate, vigorous, and reaches over 1.5 meters tall in open ground.
Well adapted to cool and humid climates. It produces abundantly but may be prone to cracking with excess moisture. Fruits are large, weighing from 300 grams up to 1 kg, usually between 400-600 grams. They are flattened and ribbed in shape, especially the largest ones, and often have a deep indentation at the stem end. Each cluster sets 3-4 fruits. The flesh is dense and juicy, beefsteak-type, with few seeds. The flavor is rich, sweet, well balanced with a hint of acidity, and a strong tomato aroma.
