IVORY TEARS, Belgium. A modern collector's variety developed in 2020 by Belgian breeders Philippe Vermeulen and Gerd Freymann through a cross involving the variety Eleven Tears. This stable mid-season cherry tomato stands out for its unusual fruit color and outstanding flavor. The plant is indeterminate, elegant, and reaches 1.5–2.0 m (5–6.5 ft) in open ground. It has small leaves and long internodes, so it performs best when trained to 1–2 stems. Each truss produces 10–12 fruits weighing 10–20 g (0.35–0.7 oz).
The fruits are elongated, teardrop-shaped, and ivory-colored with a delicate creamy-yellow tint. At full maturity they appear almost translucent, as if glowing from within. Despite their elongated shape, the fruits are highly resistant to blossom-end rot, remain firmly attached to the trusses, and have excellent market appeal. This variety is ideal for fresh eating, garnishing dishes, whole-fruit canning, and baby food thanks to its tender flesh and unique color.
FLAVOR
The flesh is tender, juicy, ivory-colored, with a thin yet durable skin. The flavor is exceptionally sweet and well balanced, with pleasant fruity notes and a delicate aroma. Its extraordinary appearance and dessert-quality flavor have made Ivory Tears one of the most remarkable modern cherry tomato varieties and a true favorite among light-colored tomatoes.
