MARIZOL BRATKA. Also known as "Purple Brandywine" or "Marizol Brandywine", this tomato originates from New Jersey (USA), where it has been grown since the late 1980s. The plants are tall, reaching up to 1.8 meters in open ground, with characteristic potato-leaf foliage typical of many old heirloom varieties. The fruits are large, flat-round in shape, and display a rich purplish-pink color with a slight raspberry hue.
The flesh is meaty and tender, with a thin skin and almost no toughness. The taste is considered one of the best among dark-colored tomato varieties: rich, sweet, with a strong tomato aroma and light fruity notes. Fruit weight ranges from 400 to 800 grams. Thanks to these qualities, this variety is rightfully regarded as a taste benchmark among both American and European collectors.
TOMATO HISTORY
This variety originates from the USA and was developed in the late 1980s by breeder Joe Bratka from New Jersey through a cross between "Brandywine" and "Marizol Purple". In 1995, it was introduced in the Seed Savers Yearbook under the name "Bratka Purple". It is also known under various names such as Brandywine Purple, Purple Brandywine, and Purple Brandy.
This tomato is perfect for fresh consumption, salads, and cold appetizers. It produces stable yields with proper care but requires staking and pruning. Recommended for growing in both open ground and greenhouses. A truly outstanding, time-tested variety for real connoisseurs and collectors!
