BERNE ROSE (ROSE DE BERNE), France. A legendary European heirloom, regarded as a classic of French folk breeding, although some sources suggest it originated in Switzerland. A mid-season indeterminate variety. In open ground, it forms a compact, tidy plant about 1.5 m tall. Each truss produces 6-8 fruits weighing 250-350 g. The plants tolerate cool autumn weather well and continue producing reliably even in regions with short summers.
This variety is prized for its dependable productivity, large pink fruits, and exceptionally delicate dessert flavor. The fruits are round, uniform, and deep pink, with a thin yet durable skin. They have excellent market appeal, ripen well after harvest, and retain their outstanding flavor. The flesh is dense, meaty, and very juicy, with small seed cavities. At full maturity, the fruits develop a rich dark pink color, when their flavor reaches its peak.
FLAVOR
The flavor is delicate, perfectly balanced, and very sweet, with almost no acidity. A pronounced fruity aroma and juicy flesh create a true dessert-like experience, while the firm texture makes every bite especially enjoyable. Berne Rose is one of the finest pink heirloom tomatoes of European breeding, combining elegant appearance, excellent productivity, and refined sweetness. Ideal for fresh eating, juices, sauces, and home cooking.
