UNCLE STYOPA. A unique cluster-bearing tomato variety of mid-season ripening, rightfully considered the longest-fruited in the collection. It received its name due to the impressive size of its fruits — after a kind giant. The ripening period is 110-115 days. The variety is distinguished by exceptional yield and stable fruiting in any weather, which rightfully makes it one of the most beloved and reliable. The plant is indeterminate, tall, over 180 cm in height, with moderate foliage. In temperate climates, cultivation in greenhouses is recommended. The bushes require mandatory staking and suckering.
Best results are achieved when formed into 1-2 stems, which allows for obtaining maximally large and uniform fruits. The fruits are the true highlight of the variety. They are very long, narrow, elongated in shape with a neat "nose" and barely noticeable ribs, resembling a banana. The fruit length is usually 17-18 cm, often reaching 20 cm, with a minimal diameter — the fruits are noticeably thinner than analogues. Tomato weight is 150-200 g, specimens up to 300 g are often found. The fruits grow in clusters of 3-5 pieces. The color at full ripeness is deep red.
VARIETY FEATURES
The flesh is practically monolithic, starchy, very dense and tender, without voids and almost without liquid. There are extremely few seeds, sometimes practically none. Tomatoes can be broken into pieces and eaten like a cucumber — a rare quality for tomatoes of this size. The taste is sweet, refreshing, with a bright tomato aroma. The skin is thin but strong. The fruits are distinguished by excellent keeping quality and transportability: up to 75 days under normal storage; up to 90 days in the refrigerator. The yield is impressive — 7-10 kg per plant with proper cultivation techniques. The variety bears fruit stably regardless of weather conditions.
Resistance is good, with possible issues noted only for late blight and various types of leaf spot under unfavorable conditions. The purpose is universal: fresh salads; pickling and marinating; drying; tomato pastes and sauces. It is not suitable for juice production due to minimal liquid content. A truly unusual, collector's variety with outstanding fruit size, high yield, and excellent taste. A true favorite for connoisseurs of rare and spectacular tomatoes.
