PIKE COUNTY YELLOW. An old heirloom variety originating from Pike County, Kentucky, USA. Notable for its vigorous growth and reliable yields even under less-than-ideal conditions. The plant is tall, reaching about 1.6 meters in open ground at maturity, forming a strong, well-foliated bush capable of supporting large fruit clusters without lodging. This variety is especially valued for its meaty texture and minimal seed content. The fruits are impressive in both size and appearance: large, flattened-round, with slightly visible ribbing at the shoulders, more pronounced in the largest specimens.
Average fruit weight ranges from 300-500 g, with some giants exceeding this size. The skin is a delicate light yellow with a soft orange hue, giving the fruits an appealing look. Inside, the flesh is dense, meaty, and grainy, with a rich golden-orange color. The flavor is classic tomato — balanced and full-bodied, without pronounced fruity notes, but with a pleasant mild sweetness. Best enjoyed fresh — slightly salted slices or salads with this tomato look and taste absolutely superb.
