CUOR DI BUE. An old Italian heirloom tomato variety, developed through folk selection. It is a local variation of the famous Oxheart, but with distinctive traits — particularly in fruit shape, plant height, and growth habits. This is a mid-season variety with semi-determinate plants that reach up to 1.5 meters tall. Requires shaping and light pruning. The plants are strong, well-leafed, with sturdy, thick stems and produce flower clusters with 3-4 fruits.
The first fruits tend to be flattened-round or pear-shaped, often irregular and strongly ribbed. Later ones are more typically heart-shaped, elongated with a distinct tip. The skin is deep pink with raspberry hues, thin yet firm. The fruits are very large — the earliest can weigh up to 800-1000 g, while the average weight of later fruits is 350-500 g. Seed count is very low.
The flesh is meaty, dense, juicy, with a rich aroma and a classic sweet, full tomato flavor — reminiscent of traditional old-fashioned varieties. This tomato is high-yielding and consistent, bearing fruit until frost. Highly valued for its flavor, large size, and heat tolerance. Best enjoyed fresh, but also ideal for sauces, pastes, juices, and other Italian cuisine dishes.
